Your Borough Councillors by Party

Borough Councillors are elected by the community to decide how the Borough Council should carry out its various activities. They represent public interest as well as individuals living within the ward in which he or she has been elected to serve a term of office.

They have regular contact with the general public through Council meetings, correspondance, telephone calls or surgeries. Surgeries provide an opportunity for any ward resident to go and talk their Borough Councillor face-to-face and these take place on a regular basis.

Borough Councillors are not paid a salary for their work, but they do receive allowances and expenses. By law, all Councillors are required to complete a declaration of interest form, the details of which are published annually and made available on the Council's website.

The Borough Council and its Councillors are responsible for local services, including planning, council housing, council tax collection, parks and public open spaces and rubbish collection. They are not responsible for other local services such as education, social services, transport, roads, public rights of way and libraries. These are the responsbility of Leicestershire County Council.
