Local Update:

Vehicle speed checks were conducted by Police Volunteers at several locations in Oadby. Vehicle speed and registration numbers were noted, and warning letters posted to vehicle owners. Most were delivered by local beat officers to vehicles owners who lived in Oadby and verbally warned re: speeding.

From the data collated, a formal Speed Enforcement Operation will be arranged at identified locations and peak times, in the near future.

Civil Enforcement Officers from the Council have been asked to conduct some patrols re: School parking issues in Oadby.

Residents have reported some abandoned vehicles in Oadby to the Police, which have not moved for several weeks/months. As the vehicles not reported stolen, and were Tax’d, the vehicles were reported to Oadby & Wigston Council Environmental Health Department (EHD). Mark Rogers from the EHD attended locations of abandoned vehicles and affixed notices. Within a few days the vehicles were moved.

Residents noted a lot of ‘nocturnal activity’ in the Borough regarding crime, especially vehicle crime. It is likely one individual / gang is responsible for the theft of motor vehicles. The ‘Nextdoor’ website and app shows a much higher number of vehicle thefts than Police data shows, but these should be taken with a pinch of salt.

eScooters – operation held on 26 September across the Borough where riders were stopped and educated. A further operation will be held and anyone stopped previously is likely to have their scooter seized. Reports encouraged to be made via 101 to ensure the Police are able to run operations in suitable locations.

Coombe Rise was recommended as a location for speed checks especially in the evenings where the football sessions finish.

Parking issues – Residents encouraged to report problem parking via 101 or the police website, but this is often resulting in the reports going nowhere in the public’s opinion. This will be fed back to the beat team.
